Hedvig Wallin
Gothenburg, Sweden
Hedvig Wallin is an illustrator and graphic designer from Gothenburg, Sweden, who began illustrating children’s books at eighteen and still does, alongside editorial work, murals, logos, labels and posters. She draws on naive art for its childlike simplicity, mixing ink, pencil, soft pastel, watercolour and digital media into playful, detail-rich images with a wonky perspective, where something new turns up each time you look.

Look again, and again
Hedvig Wallin, an illustrator and graphic designer from Gothenburg, is the first Swedish artist in the gallery, and her four prints share a habit borrowed from naive art: keep the drawing simple, let the perspective go wonky, and pack in detail for the second look. Sunday Brunch lays a breakfast table in pastel, seen from above against green kitchen tiles. Rosa Blomster fills a vase with pinks and reds. Massa Äpplen lines up rows of small watercolour apples, no two alike. Small House Big Ocean drops the colour altogether: one house, one rock, and a sea drawn wave by wave in black ink.
Wallin belongs in the rooms people actually use. Sunday Brunch and Massa Äpplen were made for a kitchen or dining wall, where they keep company with Sia Siamos's table scenes among our botanical prints. Rosa Blomster is soft enough for a bedroom. Small House Big Ocean is the quiet one, a line drawing that suits a child's room as well as a living room and hangs well next to anything with colour in it. All four are 50 x 70 cm, sold framed in wood, black or white, or unframed.
