Massa Äpplen by Hedvig Wallin lines up row upon row of small watercolour apples in reds, greens and everything between, each finished with a stroke of ink. The title is Swedish for lots of apples, and the pleasure is in the repetition: no two are the same shape or colour, so a grid that reads as pattern from across the room becomes a hundred little portraits up close. Made for a kitchen or dining wall, where it hangs like a well-stocked fruit bowl.

About Hedvig Wallin
Gothenburg, Sweden
Keep the drawing simple, let the perspective go wonky, and pack in detail for the second look.
Hedvig Wallin
Hedvig Wallin is an illustrator and graphic designer from Gothenburg, Sweden, who began illustrating children’s books at eighteen and still does, alongside editorial work, murals, logos, labels and posters. She draws on naive art for its childlike simplicity, mixing ink, pencil, soft pastel, watercolour and digital media into playful, detail-rich images with a wonky perspective, where something new turns up each time you look.
