Big Whale by Christina Hägerfors splits the sea in two: a small steamer and its gulls on top, and the pale head of a whale rising from the deep below. The tail of another is glimpsed in the dark. “I have always been scared of big things in the water,” Christina says, “and I was drawn to the idea of imagining what might be hiding beneath the surface.” She also liked the composition of the big whale and the small boat.
