Swallow Dive

Swallow Dive by Helene Brox fills the frame edge to edge with diving birds in deep cobalt, bold cut-out shapes swooping over warm cream. There is no horizon and no resting point, just the repeated plunge of wings that turns a flock into pattern. The two-colour discipline is what makes it: one blue, one cream, and all the movement carried by shape alone. Calm enough for a bedroom, confident enough for the room where guests land.

Helene Brox is an illustrator, hand letterer and mural painter based in Oslo, and a founding member of the illustration agency Heiaklubben. Her book covers won silver and a diploma at Norway’s Årets vakreste bøker in 2016, and she invents wholly unreal grafted plants to sell as prints.
